An absolutely awesome story! … Straight into our Top 5
Father Reading Every Day
With Timothy Knapman’s wonderfully playful telling that’s full of alliteration and other word combinations that demonstrate to children that language is fun, the indomitable female character and Sam Lloyd’s rumbustious scenes of madness and mayhem on the high seas, this book is a winner.
Red Reading Hub
Captain Sparklebeard is a picture book full of fun, determination and adventure, and tells a very subtle message within the story, about gender stereotypes, girl power and daring to be different. I enjoyed this one and I think lots of young children will also find this book very entertaining and funny too.

Story Snug
As a parent I love this book for so many reasons! There’s a really strong female protagonist, a fantastic pirate adventure and a really solid lesson on how reading books and educating yourself will help you get ahead in life. Ivy loves the story, and the colourful illustrations offer up lots of detail for us to talk about. She also loves joining in with the pirate’s smelly laugh which is repeated throughout the story!
